Day 6: John 5 - Little Faith
Today’s Reading Passage: John 5
He had been sick for thirty-eight years.
Shunned by his community.
Lonely from isolation.
Desperate for healing.
He would position himself closely to the pool at Bethesda, which was known for healing the lame, the blind, and the paralyzed. Maybe today would be his day. Maybe today he would be healed.
A stranger who didn’t even introduce Himself, came up and asked the most obvious question, “Do you want to get well?”
Desperately he wanted to get well! He had been trying for years! Little did he realize that the stranger He was talking to knew everything about him and was about to change his life.
The stranger, which we know is Jesus, told him to pick up his mat and walk. AND HE DID!
Notice the sick man didn’t even know Jesus or show faith in Jesus to be healed. Yet Jesus touched his life anyway.
Do you want to get well? Maybe it’s not a physical ailment, but instead, the imperfections in your life have weighed you down so much that you feel the need for help. Maybe your heart aches and desires for joy in your life.
God is there. He’s there as you are shunned by community, lonely from isolation, and in desperate need. God shows us grace even when we don’t have faith or don’t deserve it.
Is there anything that holds you back from receiving God’s grace? How can you accept the gift of God’s grace and love today?
