Day 17: John 14 - I Am The Way
Today’s Reading Passage: John 14
On the back roads of southern Utah, in what feels like the middle of nowhere, is the heart of the majestic red rock country.
Many of the national parks around this beautiful state are filled with domed mountains, sandy cliffs, and red canyons with some of the most amazing and unique sites.
One site in particular is like Heaven on earth, but very few people experience it. Why is that?
There’s only one road to it.
And it’s not just any road. The road is made of soft, mushy sand that turns to mud in any rainstorm. The road is windy with bumps and boulders to overcome around every corner. And the road is long (a little too long, considering there aren’t any bathroom stops along it!).
Jesus likened Himself to something similar as He sat with His disciples in the upper room.
Before He left them, He wanted them to know that He is the one road—that He is “the way, the truth, and the life and that no one comes to the Father except through me” (vs. 6, ESV).
Like a precious map at a national park, Jesus was sharing the route to Heaven. And it is through Him.
Jesus isn’t A way to get to Heaven. He is THE way!
He never claimed that the road would be easy. In fact, He knew things were about to get more difficult for His disciples, which we’ll see Him explain in John 15. Yet, He encouraged His disciples:
“Peace I leave with you.
My peace I give to you…
Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful” (vs. 27, CSB)
Through it all, His disciples should be encouraged that they would one day see Him again. And we should be encouraged too that we will be able to see Him in Heaven, if we just believe in Him!
How do you feel about Jesus being the one and only way to Heaven? Are you ready to take the road less traveled for Him?
