Day 10: John 8:1-30 - Grace and Mercy

I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.
— John 8:12, CSB

Today’s Reading Passage: John 8:1-30

She carried with her a heavy heart. She had made a mistake, and that mistake was about to lead her to death.

Broken.

Humiliated.

Ashamed.

Likely afraid. She stood in front of a group of leaders ready to condemn her.

Have you been there? Feeling ashamed for a mistake you’ve made. Maybe you have been condemned by others for your past. Maybe you don’t feel loved by anyone.

You may think that if God knew what you have done, He would never accept or love you. You may even think that the condemnation you have received by others is the same reaction God has toward you.

Know this, beloved: GOD LOVES YOU. He has seen you when you’re in the bottom of the pit and the top of the mountain. He knows every detail of your life. And He loves you always and no matter what, and does not want to leave your side.

We see this lived out in Jesus’ reaction to the women caught in adultery. He stood and offered her grace (getting what we don’t deserve) and mercy (not getting what we do deserve). He refused to leave her where she was. He spoke truth to her as He sent her along her way and asked her to leave her life of sin.

This same invitation Jesus extended this woman is also given to each of us. It is possible, friend, to experience the grace, mercy, and truth of Jesus.

When we, as sinners, fall at the feet of Jesus, God rejoices and welcomes us home! Be encouraged today, to embrace the mercy and grace of God, and seek the truth of who Jesus is.

What do you learn about God’s mercy and grace in today’s passage?

Pray and ask God to reveal His love for you.
