Day 1 - God is our Refuge

Reading Passage: Psalms 16:1-2

Living in the heart of Tennessee meant that tornadoes were a normal part of the week. The sirens would sound, the up-to-the-minute news briefing on the location of the storm would take over the television screen, and the gathering of shoes, water, bike helmets, and blankets would begin to find their way to the storm shelter underground.

In the heat of those stressful moments, I was so grateful for having a safe place to take cover. Psalm 16 shows us a lot about the kind of faith that David had, leading him to find great joy in God alone. God had been his refuge and he knew that with Him, he had security.

He said;

“Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” Psalm 16:1-2, NIV

Did David really mean these words even when life wasn’t going as he hoped it would? I don’t know about you, but as I read “apart from you I have no good thing” - I can’t help to recognize that David had experienced difficulty, yet continued to find his trust exclusively in the Lord

What things or people help you feel safe? __________________________

God, you are the ONE where we can find the fullness of joy today! Help us to see You at work in our lives. Today, I want to trust exclusively in You and in your love. Amen.
