Day 1 - Doing Good Things
Reading Passage: Matthew 8:1-17
Let’s dive into Matthew, Chapter 8 where Jesus was healing those who were paralyzed, diseased, sick, and possessed by demonic spirits throughout the city of Capernaum.
Can you even imagine the emotional and physical exhaustion that it required to minister and meet so many needs all day long?
Do you ever get burnt out doing good things for those who need you? We all do.
Let's take a look at what a day in the life of Jesus looked like.
“When he came down from the mountain, large crowds followed him. Right away a man with leprosy came up and knelt before him saying, ‘Lord if you are willing, you can make me clean.’ Reaching out his hand, Jesus touched him, saying, ‘I am willing: be made clean.’ Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” Matthew 8:1-3, CSB
If we were there with Jesus, we would have watched with amazement as people desperate for hope reach out to touch Him for healing. People who didn’t question if Jesus had the power to heal… but people who voiced confidence saying, “you can make me clean.”
We would have heard the voices of ones controlled by demons needing freedom from bondage.
We would have seen the pain in their eyes and the belief that they had in the One they believed could bring healing.
Check this out - everything Jesus does in this chapter fulfills the words spoken through the Prophet Isaiah!
“He himself took our weaknesses and carried our diseases.”( Isaiah 53:4)
You may not be coming down from a mountain and healing people in your city today friend, but the way you seek to serve God may be wearing you out and it could be time for some rest. Join us tomorrow as we talk about the fact that Jesus showed others the importance of rest!
