Day 24: John 19:1-16 - Jesus is our Everything

They shouted, ‘Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!’ Pilate said to them, ‘Should I crucify your king?’ ‘We have no king but Caesar!’ the chief priests answered.

Today’s Reading Passage: John 19:1-16

Jesus was mocked by soldiers for His claim to be the King of the Jews. In an ironic turn of events, the King of the Jews Himself was mockingly called His actual title.

Stripped and beaten. Royal robes on His shoulders. A crown of thorns on His head.

He was sentenced to death for Him professing to the Jews to be the Son of God.

A claim that was true. A claim that frightened Pilate. A claim that the Jews used to send Him to the cross.

The Jews accusing Him wouldn’t claim Jesus as their anything. Not King. Not Son of God. He was NOTHING to them.

But Jesus can be EVERYTHING to us. He is the name above every name (Philippians 2:9-11).

In the book of John alone, we see Jesus called:

The Word

God

Rabbi

Lamb of God

Messiah

Bridgegroom

Living Water

Savior of the World

Bread of Life

Light of the World

The Door

Good Shepherd

Resurrection and the Life

The Way, the Truth, the Life

True Vine

King of the Jews

Son of God

… and the list goes on.

Jesus is SO much more than we could ever imagine. He can be our EVERYTHING, because He was willing to give up His everything to save us.

Beaten, mocked, accused, and the ability to get out of ALL of it at any moment, Jesus could have snapped His fingers and said “Enough!” But He didn’t.

He was quiet. He was gentle. He took the punishment. Willingly. All for us.

What name of Jesus do you most connect with? How can Jesus become your EVERYTHING today?
