Day 13 - The Parable of the Talents

Reading passage: Matthew 25:14-30

The Parable of the Talents is one of several that Jesus told His disciples concerning the last days and His return or second coming.

Jesus exhorts all disciples of Christ to be faithful stewards and caretakers of all that God has entrusted to us.

Yet, maybe like the unfaithful servant in this parable, you’ve played it safe.

Maybe you’ve been afraid to use what you’ve been given when you compare yourself to others who seem to be or have more or do something better.

Maybe you’ve been afraid of failure or of being judged.

Thankfully, there’s NO condemnation for anyone who puts their faith in Jesus (Romans 8:1). In fact, Jesus is both the initiator and the perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2)

So we can confidently know that God’s loving faithfulness is the source and sustainer of our faith, faithfulness, and joy.

As you read the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:14-30 what do you learn about being a steward of what God has entrusted to you?

Reminder: To understand the heart of Jesus’ parable here, read before and after the parable to identify the original audience Jesus was talking to and cultural reference points and characters they would have understood. Also observe the ending, which often had an unexpected twist that Jesus desired the audience to notice most.
